Does the prevalence of Bonamia and Marteilia diseases be reduced on flat oysters (Ostrea edulis) of Atlantic and Mediterranean origin, when they are reared together with the Japanese oyster (Crassostrea gigas) in tidal ponds? ArchiMer
Bodoy, Alain; Bougrier, Serge; Geairon, Philippe; Garnier, Jacqueline; Boulo, Viviane; Heurtebise, Serge.
The flat oyster Ostrea edulis was originally reared in several regions of the European waters. The tidal saline ponds on the Atlantic coasts of France were highly productive before being hit by two consecutive epizooties. Parasitic diseases were described on this species, both of them leading 10 economic losses, as heavy mortalities have usually been recorded before the oysters reach the commercial size. Repeated experiments showed that the two diseases, Marteilia refringens and Bonamia ostreae are still active in this environment. Recently, some evidences were given that haemocytoblasts of Crassostrea gigas had the ability to lyze the Bonamia cells. Therefore, in an experiment of contiguous culture of the two species of oysters, the growth, mortality and...

This fifth part of the polyploidisation program reports the experiments that were conducted in 1993 and that were devoted to : - monitoring growth performance of Ostrea edulis diploids and triploids in La Trinité sur Mer and Palavas - monitoring growth performance of Crassostrea gigas diploids and triploids in Port en Bessin, Marennes Oleron (2 locations), Arcachon and Palavas - comparative study of gametogenesis for C. gigas diploids and triploids - comparative study of C. gigas diploids and triploids using sensorial analysis At the end of fifth year, it was clear that triploids are advantageous although such a statement must be moderated according to locations. The gametogenesis stydy showed that triploidy is associated with partial to complete...

Transferts énergétiques entre l'huître Crassostrea gigas de 1 an et la nourriture potentielle disponible dans l'eau d'un bassin ostréicole ArchiMer
Deslous-paoli, Jean-marc; Heral, Maurice.
A paraIleI study of the available energy in the water and of the energy balance of one year old Crassostrea gigas has been made in Marennes-Oleron. Also, from the 32.95 \06 Kcal/m2 that goes through a waterspout of 0,1 m (5.96 \06 Kcal/m2 from phytoplancton, and 64.1 102 Kcal/m2 for the bacteria), an average of 0.19 70 is used by the oyster population. 5 343 Kcal of that annual consummate energy (20 383 Kcal) are assimilated, and 15 035 Kcal (73.8 70) are rejected as feces pseudofeces. From the assimilated energy, 4 317 Kcal (80.8 %) was available for the metabolism and 19.2 % for production of tissue (567 Kcal), shell (281 Kcal) and gametes (182 Kcal). However in the winter the production efficiency are negative ant it is considered that the overload in...

Variations saisonnières in situ de la production et de la composition des biodépots de trois mollusques estuariens (Mytilus edulis, Crassostrea gigas, Crepidula fornicata) ArchiMer
Deslous-paoli, Jean-marc; Sornin, Jean-marc; Heral, Maurice.
The biodeposition was quantified on the field with sediment traps. All over the year, the biodeposition was the lowest for Crepidula fornicata. Mytilus edulis rejected more biodeposits during winter, and Crassostrea gigas during spring and autumn. The percentage of organic matter sonsumed and digested was higher during summer. The constituttive elements of the digested organic matter was not always the same, all over the year. The energy content of the digest fraction was higher in spring. For Mytilus edulis the ration intake was higher in winter and spring, related with the gametogenetic ans spawning period. An analysis of the mineral constutents of the natural food was made.
